About X-Industries

X-Industries is a free and open-source software project, currently run by ~hellfire103.

The project has been through a number of different forms over the years. At first, I used the name for a website about spies, which I was very interested in at the time. Of course, I was only seven years old back then, so the site was really just a few pages I threw together in RapidWeaver, comprised mainly of YouTube videos.

This site changed completely in 2015, when I switched to WordPress. Rather than a special interest site, I presented X-Industries as a sort of company, which produced some basic software and some impressive vapourware. Unfortunately, a few years later, either the site got hacked or WordPress had a glitch, and I completely lost access. However, this may have been a blessing in disguise.

Once I had regained control of the site, I finally started to take the project seriously. Vapourware was out and half-decent software was in. Also, everything was now FOSS and cross-platform.

And that brings us to today, when X-Industries is being overhauled once more. This decision was mainly because, since day one, the web hosting and domain have been managed by my father, and the WordPress hosting is getting a bit pricey. I decided this could be a good opportunity to not only gain more control over my website, but also to make some changes to better align X-Industries with my own ideas and philosophies: a new website has been created using nothing but hand-written HTML and CSS; and the projects under the umbrella of X-Industries will now all follow a loosely-defined philosophy, inspired in part by suckless.org; all hosted by Codeberg.
